(This might explain why I have tried every single PageRank lookup script on the web and can’t get any of them to work! I have been doing all my testing on HostGator… doh!)

I am a fairly experienced PHP/Javascripter with over a decade’s experience, so I don’t think it’s user error… is there any chance that HostGator are doing something that clashes with this lookup?

You need to update any references that say:
toolbarqueries.google.com/search
and
http://www.google.com/search

to
toolbarqueries.google.com/tbr
