How can I recycle my computer hardware?
NEVER THROW AWAY YOUR COMPUTER EQUIPMENT
There’s many ways to recycle your computer hardware. The most common methods are as follows:
- Charities
- Recycle centres
- Manufacturers
- Traders
Charities
Although there are many charities out there (check your Yellow Pages), there are very few charities dedicated to recycling computer hardware, however they do exist, and they are as follows…
- The IT Resource Guide For UK Charities and Non-Profit Organisations
- Computers for Charities
- Recycling for Charities
From the above sites you can find a whole load of companies offering to recycle your computer hardware.
Other charities include:
Recycle centers
There are hundreds of them, ring up your local computer shop (see Yellow Pages) and ask them if they recycle computers for charitiy, or you can check the following lists:
- Reuze.co.uk – what to do with your unwanted IT equiptment
- IT for Charities List of Recyclers
- Waste Online – Computer recyclers
- Recycle Computers
Specific recycling centers include:
Manufacturers
Many manufacturers will have a recycling policy, here are a few:
If your manufacturer isn’t listed above, simply contact them and ask them what their “recycling policy” is.
Traders
Never just throw away your computer equiptment, even if its no longer any use to you, it may be useful to someone.
Try and sell or trade it…

Could you tell me if anywhere in west or east sussex takes unwanted computer equipment for recycling. I have a Brother laser printer with not much wrong (perhaps a dirty drum), but otherwise was a £500 machine 8 years ago and not done much work in that time. I’m actually in Worthing. Also need to know if ink cartridges can be recycled locally. Thanks.

We have used http://www.ukitrecycling.com in the past, they can usualy collect within 3 days of me phoning them and donate alot of equipment to people who struggle to afford new equipment for kids homework and the like.
Last year we had them granulate all our hard drives on site, it was very interesting to watch the had drives being reduced to bits.
I dont have the contact setails to hand but im sure they are all on the web site.
I have also heard great things about remploy ecycle – they offer a great service for computer equipment recycling for consumers and businesses.
We have been really pleased with how employers and businesses are taking responsibility for their waste and disposing of it complying with all UK regs. Businesses make such an impact on the environment but can help it just as much.
I have recently used http://www.pureplanetrecycling.co.uk , i recycled IT waste along with 2 fridge freezers, all paperwork was provided for the duty of care and were very reasonably priced.
