Samsung ML-4500 XP driver install
I decided I was finally fed up with my Epson Stylus C46 bubble jet printer, and decided that I don’t really need it anyway.
Everything I print only needs to be in black and white, and anything else I can print onto the HP Photosmart 3110 All-in-one that I have located in the room on another machine.
So now it’s time to get serious, I decided to use a Samsung ML-4500 laser jet I had lying around spare.
Only, how do you install this thing on Windows XP?
Yes, I plugged it in, powered it up, and connected the printer cable to my machine’s LPT port.
It’s not plug and play so I had to invoke “Add Hardware” from within control panel.
It knew what it was straight away and detected it as a “Samsung ML-4500”, but displayed the “Unknown device” icon next it.
No driver can be found, “cannot install this hardware” is displayed… Time to locate the driver…
First port of call is the Samsung USA website after a quick google for “Samsung ML-4500 XP driver”, which displayed the FAQ “ML-4500 I Don’t Have Windows XP Driver And Cannot Print.“, and an ML-4500 Driver (20030828190257140_20010927112109ML4500English.exe) is provided.
Downloading this driver, I find that it’s a setup process, which doesn’t work, and I get the following error:
An error occurred during the move process: -115
Component: 2000DIR2
File Group: 2000_DIR
File: C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2\ssgk2.dll
A quick google tells me that i’m not alone with this problem, however, the results are outdated… So what now?
I decide to visit Samsung’s site directly, and SEARCH. There I found a download center page for the ML-4500. There the ML-4500 Printer Driver (ver.1.61) (20050617120952218_ML-4500series_english.exe) is provided.
This downloads and runs fine, but strangely installs to “C:\Windows\Samsung\ML4500”.
At this point, if it has worked correctly, you should find that in “Printers and Faxes” under control panel, you now have a new “Samsung ML-4500 Series” printer.
Going into properties, and printing a “Test Page” should prove that it worked successfully!
I know I have quite a few ML-4500’s lying around different places, so I’m certain this will be useful to me in future, if not others…
Final thought: Why don’t hardware manufacturers SEO their sites especially their driver downloads? This could all have been avoided if the right results showed up in the first place.

In order for the printer to work use this driver http://erms.samsungusa.com/customer/sea/jsp/faqs/faqs_view.jsp?PG_ID=1&AT_ID=8188&PROD_SUB_ID=29&PROD_ID=29
After installing the driver go into “control panel “then “printer and faxes”. Right click on samsung ml 4500, go into properties then PORTS. Scroll down and click on USB instead of LPT1printer port. Now your done!!
The link in Kamil’s post is a dead one (in fact the entire sub-domain is). Wonder what’s up? Sucks cause I need the driver now.
I had a look at this, you can view it via the wayback machine here:

The link to the actual EXE appears to be dead.
What’s wrong with the driver link in the main article? :

This writeup on on driver installation for SAMSUNGML-4500 is just very amazing and helpful. I had ,for some time, found it difficult to download driver to use my printer but reading this article about twenty minutes ago. I decided to try the method of clicking ” download center page for the ML-4500.” directly from this page , and before I knew it , I had successfully down loaded it and I am now ablbe to print.
Thanks for the information
James
Thanks for this page, and particularly for your Nov 14th post. Searching on the Samsung site fails now to find this page. But it’s still there as the link shows, and what’s more, there is a Vista/Win 7 driver included in the list!!!
Thanks for the information. Downloaded Ver. 1.61, installed, lugged in the printer, and re-set port to USB. Printing just fine. THANKS!
Interesting pages. Many thanks. I have tried installing various versions (inc. v.1.61 driver) of the ML4500 driver but still no luck. I am using a Best Connectivity USB to Printer (parallel) cable which I have assigned to USB001 in the port allocation tab of the printer. When I send a print job the printer sounds like it will begin printing but nothing ever is produced. Any ideas?
I´m glad to found this page. My printer is working now. So thanks, especially to Kamil.
Hello All?
I am using windows 7 and I have Samsung ML-4500. But I can’t print something. Because I have not printer driver at win 7.
Please HELP ME find them!!!!!!
Thank a lot!
Just dug this printer out of strage cos my other samsung’s toner died… but went to this link
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=ML-4500
I installed the 1.61 XP version and is working fine, no errors and took about 3 seconds… it also has drivers for Win7 and eveything else… if the link dies go to the US site and look for ML-4500 at the moment they are still suporting this great little printer.
Thanks again ^_^
